Smokin’ Pilchards describe themselves as a

‘nautical folk-stomping shanty machine’

or in other words

sea shanty inspired high-energy folk that’ll make you get drunk and dance till the sun comes up!

With the Band split in two, half hailing from the port of Falmouth, Cornwall and half based in the landlocked town of Stourbridge, The Pilchards have been delighting crowds with their unique ‘Kernow crossover’ sound at festivals, pubs and clubs up and down the UK for 5 years.

Nick Townsend of Ryan’s Gig Guide describes the band:

“As if Early Adam and the Ants were Cornish pirates headbutting members of 80’s Madness and Dexys Midnight Runners”

The Pilchards expertly weave infectious sax driven riffs with a solid rhythm section and clever quirky vocals about relatable and sometimes morbid characters to create a melting pot of musical wonderment.

The Band is made up of  brothers John (Vocals and guitar) and Ed Cartwright (Sax), Blues legend  Roberto Carlucci (Lead Guitar), Ryan Peters (U Bass) Chrissy Velveteen (Backing vocals) and Tracy Hickinbottom (Cajon and occasionally Kit).
