Tinkers Lane are a five-piece from Milton Keynes, playing the happy, catchy pop songs of frontman Ian Roberts. Their sound harks back to the classic songwriting of the late
60s – Beatles, Kinks, and the summer of love – with added flavours and inspiration taken from Carlos Santana through Bob Marley to Chas ’n’ Dave.

The music ranges from intimate love songs to melodic upbeat summer tunes that will have you dancing and dreaming of a better world. Catchy tunes combine with perceptive, poetic lyrics underpinned by a yearning for love and social justice.

Their debut album is The Noise is Beautiful. The single, Honey Honey, is a soft-rock love song. Ian says “We were on holiday, on the Île d’Oléron – which is a lovely island on the west coast of France. We cycled everywhere, and one day we went out to a little village called Saint-Denis that has a classic French market in the square and a bar on the corner. So my wife – Annie – chose to walk round the market, and I chose to sit outside the bar with a
cold beer. And as I watched the scenery, and the people doing what they do, I saw Annie walking up and down the aisles of the market, browsing at the stalls, chatting to everyone
as she does, then she looked over to me and smiled, and I thought back to how she first smiled at me nearly thirty years ago, when I fell in love with her on the spot. And I smiled back and thought ‘I still love that woman today.’ And suddenly I had a new melody arrive in my head, so I wrote about what I was feeling and seeing, and the song Honey Honey was born.”

A Tinkers Lane gig is a journey across genres, spanning pop, rock’n’roll, country, reggae, latin and rockney, always with a happy, uplifting sound that is uniquely their own.
